It seems like every park here in Yaroslavl has monuments. Usually we have no clue what they are for or who they are honoring, but yesterday a couple were identified for us by Olga. These three monuments were all in the same downtown park.
This original of this monument was built in the late 1800's but was destroyed in 1938. It was just recently rebuilt. I believe it honors one of the first teaches in Yaroslavl, who began a university here.
This monument honors those who fought in WWII. On the left is the side commemorating the men who fought and died and the right side commemorates the women who had to hold so much together back at home. You can't see it very well, but in the center there burns an 'eternal fire'. As you can see even in the winter people bring fresh flowers to lay on the monument.
This is a revolution monument. It honors those who died trying to protest and stand up against the revolution. Today it is not a very popular monument, but in years past schools would come and have their class pictures taken in front of it.

I see you have snow. It actually snowed here this morning and stuck on the grass for about an hour before it warmed up. I hope it doesn't snow tomorrow as we are driving to Boise in the morning!

Is the Revolution Monument dated 1917 as this is when the Tsar abdicated when he heard of the fall in St Petersburg (Petrograd). Did you know that much of St Petersburg's architecture is of Dutch design???? let it snow, let it snow-let it snow!! keep the photos comin!!!!!!!!!!!
