McCarthy Kennicott
This friday Ellie and I went with Tom to work. We rode with him into the Wrangell St. Elias National Park as he took tourists into McCarthy and Kennicott. These towns are old mining towns that are now located within the national park. We put Ellie in her backpack carrier and then went up to Kennicott first. We ate lunch at the lodge and then walked around a bit. The big red building is the Mill. kennicott was literally a whole town that was abandoned in the 30's, after the mine closed down. Everything was left pretty much intact. After walking around the mine area we then went down to McCarthy. We looked in the museum and saw tons of old photos of people and the area. It was neat to see all the history that has taked place there. While walking around McCarthy Ellie had such a sad expression on her face. We even had a lady comment on it. I took a picture because it was pretty pathetic. We did not take the tour around the mill because Tom had to get the van ready to take the tourist back out again. Ellie did really good on the 9 hour round trip van ride. She only cried a tiny bit. It was a fun day and we were even able to see dip net fishing and fish wheel's going on the Chitna river.
